Training Overview
This 8 week training will teach you how to compassionately and skillfully use theological concepts in God's word to help people grow. This class will also prep individuals for completing the Association of Certified Biblical Counselor (ACBC) Theology exam if they are interested.
8 Saturday sessions (Sept. 29 - Nov. 17, 2018)
Total of 16 hours of instruction with Q & A
Time: 8:00-10:00am
Location: Northridge Church, Irondequoit Campus, 2052 Saint Paul St.
Cost: $25 (please make check payable to “Northridge Church”)
Requirements:
Be a Christ-follower serious about growing in your faith and being stretched
Read the equivalent of about 30 pages each week and contribute to class discussions
Work hard to study and write down summary statements about what you believe about the topics we study
Commit to attend at least 5 out 8 classes
Training Content
Each week will discuss various theological concepts and how they practically play out in counseling. Below is a sample of some of the topics that will be covered in the training:
Describe the inspiration, inerrancy, and authority of Scripture as well as the relationship of each one of these issues to one another.
Define general revelation and special revelation and describe the nature of their authority as well as their relationship to one another.
Explain the doctrine of the Trinity, and provide its biblical basis.
Explain each of the following attributes of God describing the practical implications of each attribute for life and counseling: wrath, mercy, holiness, omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence.
Explain, using biblical categories, your understanding of the image of God in man.
Provide a biblical description of the dichotomist view of mankind. Explain the counseling implications of this doctrine with regard to the inner and outer man.
Provide an explanation of and the biblical basis for the doctrine of substitutionary atonement, explaining the implications of this doctrine for human guilt over sin. Relate your understanding of this to the concept of false guilt.
Define faith in biblical terms explaining its relationship to justification and sanctification.
Explain the role of the Holy Spirit in the Christian life describing the importance of this role in the counseling process.
Provide a biblical description of the church.
