  1. What does it mean to be a stranger to the world? Why should we be strangers to the world? Why is it hard?

Dig Deeper:

Tonight we learned that NYM is a community built on Jesus, the cornerstone. Use the ‘Dig Deeper’ handout to dig into this more.

Application:

  1. In what ways do you see NYM built on Jesus?

    1. How are the friendships you have made in NYM different from ones at school?

  2. How can you be a stranger to the world, but still love your friends who do not know Jesus?

Personal Challenge:

  1. Am I a stranger or a friend of Jesus?

Being strangers of the world does not mean we do not engage with and share about Jesus with people of the world.

How is the way we spend our time together different in a community of believers? Why?

  1. How are arguments handled differently in a community of believers? Why?

Digging Deeper

(Leaders: refer to Eph. 2:11-18 for context; use/ build off of below points as you deem appropriate :))

Read Ephesians 2:19-22:

19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

Looking at the verses above…

  1. What words does verse 19 use to describe people before knowing Christ? Write them here:

  2. Underline who verse 19 says we are when we know Christ as our Savior (Hint: there are 2).

  3. Circle the word foundation. Who does v. 20 say Jesus is? Fill that in here: Jesus is the __________________.

Digging Deeper Questions:

  1. Why is Jesus being the cornerstone of our lives and community so important? (Think of Conell’s talk & look at v.21-22 for help)
