Ice Breaker
What is one word your friends would use to describe you?
Discussion
Think of an exciting moment in your week and answer the following questions
How did you respond physically?
What were you thinking?
What were you feeling?
How did it impact you spiritually?
Read Genesis 2:7 and the following commentary: “Here God breathes life - the physical, mental, and spiritual - into the one created to bear his image” (ESV Study Bible)
Think about bearing God’s image holistically - physically, mentally, and spiritually.
What would that look like?
What would that sound like?
How do all of those aspects impact the other? (Think of the personal example you answered above)
What have the circles you’ve been in or culture in general (social media, TV shows, etc) emphasized as most important to who you are? What have you started to believe?
Application
Read: God created all of you - body, mind, spirit - purposefully to reflect His image. Our forgetting that God is the Creator causes us to want and go after a design that is different: a design that focuses on just one part of who we are and forgetting the others. But God, the Creator, calls us to honor Him with all of who we are and promises to redeem all of who we are in Jesus - body, mind, spirit - one day redeemed in Jesus. While we wait, how do we honor Him?
Remember your place: Read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“Not being our own means our body does not exist solely for our pleasure and agenda…And so in our body, no less than our mind or heart or anything else, we can bring glory to God” (Sam Allberry)
Start Small: How can you glorify God with your body, mind, or spiritual walk this week?
What might you have to stop/get rid of?
What new rhythm might you need to add?
Reflect: How did that change impact the whole of your life - how you relate to God and how you relate to others?
