KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of October 3rd

Here’s some encouragement for parents!

Children listen to your words to learn what you value the most. The phrases “I love you,” “I’m proud of you,” “I believe in you,” “I’m here for you,” when regularly spoken from you, echo the heart of God. Hearts become open to understand how God sees them: awesome, loved, chosen. A child’s self-worth emerges. When under pressure, these words bring courage to celebrate others’ accomplishments along with their own. Being open to ask for advice becomes the norm. Feeling superior decreases and the unfailing love felt from God increases. Parent’s words have power!

This week’s resources are listed below. Have a great week!

Preschool Resources

Bible Story: A Roaring Rescue — Daniel in the Lions’ Den

Big Idea: God is bigger and stronger than any scary thing, and our big, strong God is always with us. God promises to help you when you’re afraid. This story of Daniel in the lion's den will teach kids about trusting in God in the face of any fear!

Step 1: Watch the video with your preschoolers.

Step 2: Review with your kids.

Ask your kids: What do you say when you’re afraid? (Goodbye, fear! God is here!)

Step 3: Practice the Memory Verse with your preschoolers.

“...the LORD your God ... says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13 NIV

Step 4: Print the Adventure Guide to use with your preschooler throughout the week.

Elementary Resources

STEP 1: Read the Bible Passage with your kids

Bible Story: King Saul • 1 Samuel 13:1-14, 15:10-29

King Saul was chosen to lead God’s people, the Israelites. When Saul led the Israelites into battle against their enemy, the Philistines, he became frightened and disobeyed God. King Saul viewed himself as the ultimate authority in Israel, and this upset God. Samuel, one of God’s judges, tried to help Saul and the Israelites, but Saul still didn’t listen. Because he disobeyed God and forgot that God is the one true King, Saul had to face consequences, and his time as king would soon come to an end.

STEP 2: Choose a worship video to sing with your kids

STEP 3: Watch the Video with your Kids

STEP 4: Practice this month’s Bible Verse with your kids.

Memory Verse: “No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.” Jeremiah 10:6 NIV

STEP 5: Review with your kids.

Big Idea: God is the One True King.

This story helps us address three kinds of questions that kids may have. They are our He (God question), our We (people question), and our Me (purpose question) for this week.

Ask Your Kids:

  • Our He Question about God: Can anyone take the place of God?

  • Our We Question about people: Why should we be faithful to God?

  • Our Me Question about our purpose: What if I want to make my own choices instead of following God's way?
