KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of October 17th

We hope you’ve been able to enjoy the warm October weather we’ve had this last week!

Preschool parents, all month long your kids have been learning about Daniel and the Lions Den. The Bible App has a reading plan that goes along with our preschool curriculum. If you’re not familiar, the Bible App is a FREE app that has more than 2,400 Bible versions in over 1,600 languages. There are also thousands of different reading plans to help you grow in your faith. Click HERE to access the YouVersion Reading plan called “A Roaring Rescue” or go to bible.com and search under plans. This is a great tool to help your kids dive deeper into the story of Daniel.

Giving Project: Northridge’s Beyond team is hosting a Trunk or Treat on October 30th from 10-11:30 AM for two of our amazing partners that strengthen families in Rochester, David's Refuge & RISE Community School 106! This giving project is unique because in addition to kids bringing in money or candy as part of their offering, it also provides an opportunity for families to participate in a serving project TOGETHER! There are several different ways to get involved. Here are a few ways to participate:

  • Bring a trunk - Decorate and create a themed trunk with candy for kids

  • Donate Items - Candy and Small Toys

  • Volunteer for Day of Staff

  • Sponsor a Trunk - Donate materials or dollars to help make it happen

  • Dress as a Special Character - Kids love a photo opp with a character/mascot they know (think Spiderman, Mulan, Darth Vader etc. )

To learn more about this Trunk of Treat event or to sign up, click HERE.

This week’s resources are listed below. Have a great week!

Preschool Resources

Bible Story: A Roaring Rescue — Daniel in the Lions’ Den

Big Idea: God is bigger and stronger than any scary thing, and our big, strong God is always with us. God promises to help you when you’re afraid. This story of Daniel in the lion's den will teach kids about trusting in God in the face of any fear!

Step 1: Watch the video with your preschoolers.

Step 2: Review with your kids.

Ask your kids: What do you say when you’re afraid? (Goodbye, fear! God is here!)

Step 3: Practice the Memory Verse with your preschoolers.

“...the LORD your God ... says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13 NIV

Step 4: Print the Adventure Guide to use with your preschooler throughout the week.

Elementary Resources

STEP 1: Read the Bible Passage with your kids

Bible Story: Solomon and the Queen of Sheba : 1 Kings 10:1-13

Saul was king of Israel. His son, Jonathan, and David were good friends. They swore a covenant with each other to always be loyal to each other and that Jonathan would support David as king. David did as King Saul commanded and was successful on many missions for him, but over time, Saul became jealous of David and all of his successes. King Saul made a plan to kill David, but Jonathan was loyal and helped David. He told David about the king’s plans, and David was saved. God planned that David would become king, and His plans always prevail.

STEP 2: Choose a worship video to sing with your kids

STEP 3: Watch the Video with your Kids

STEP 4: Practice this month’s Bible Verse with your kids.

Memory Verse: “No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.” Jeremiah 10:6 NIV

STEP 5: Review with your kids.

Big Idea: No one is wiser than God.

This story helps us address three kinds of questions that kids may have. They are our He (God question), our We (people question), and our Me (purpose question) for this week.

Ask Your Kids:

  • Our He Question about God: Where does wisdom come from?

  • Our We Question about people: How can we recognize wisdom from God?

  • Our Me Question about our purpose: How can I become wiser?
