KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of October 24th

Do your kids (or you) ever have a hard time falling asleep at night? Listening to music is one useful tool to help us rest. Pair that with the power of God’s Word and you have an amazing tool. Today we want to make you aware of a beautifully created resource called “Scripture Lullabies”. You can find “Scripture Lullabies” website HERE or simply listen to them on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora or Amazon. “The Word of God is so very powerful, especially in a form where it can be easily absorbed – that’s why Scripture Lullabies is having such a profound impact on listeners of ALL ages, not just the little ones! It has changed the atmosphere in tens of thousands of homes with an undeniable peace and the powerful story of God’s Word told through breathtaking music.”

“This peaceful music has been used to calm anxious hearts; help babies, children, and adults sleep soundly; and bring peace to those suffering from illness, trauma, grief, and difficult circumstances. Experience God’s Word in a uniquely gentle way with Scripture Lullabies.” We hope you find this resource helpful for your entire family!

Giving Project: Northridge’s Beyond team is hosting a Trunk or Treat THIS Saturday, October 30th from 10-11:30 AM for two of our amazing partners that strengthen families in Rochester, David's Refuge & RISE Community School 106! This giving project is unique because in addition to kids bringing in money or candy as part of their offering, it also provides an opportunity for families to participate in a serving project TOGETHER! There are several different ways to get involved. Here are a few ways to participate:

  • Bring a trunk - Decorate and create a themed trunk with candy for kids

  • Donate Items - Candy and Small Toys

  • Volunteer for Day of Staff

  • Sponsor a Trunk - Donate materials or dollars to help make it happen

  • Dress as a Special Character - Kids love a photo opp with a character/mascot they know (think Spiderman, Mulan, Darth Vader etc. )

This week’s resources are listed below. Have a great week!

Bible Story: A Roaring Rescue — Daniel in the Lions’ Den

Big Idea: God is bigger and stronger than any scary thing, and our big, strong God is always with us. God promises to help you when you’re afraid. This story of Daniel in the lion's den will teach kids about trusting in God in the face of any fear!

Step 1: Watch the video with your preschoolers.

Step 2: Review with your kids.

Ask your kids: What do you say when you’re afraid? (Goodbye, fear! God is here!)

Step 3: Practice the Memory Verse with your preschoolers.

“...the LORD your God ... says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13 NIV

Step 4: Print the Adventure Guide to use with your preschooler throughout the week.

Elementary Resources

STEP 1: Read the Bible Passage with your kids

Bible Story: Elijah and the Contest : 1 Kings 18:1-3, 17-46

There was a drought and famine in the land and God’s people had started worshipping a false god named Baal. God wanted His people to follow Him, so He sent a message through a prophet named Elijah. All of the people were summoned to Mount Carmel for a contest to see who was the real God. The followers of Baal asked for his response, but he never answered. Meanwhile, God sent fire from heaven that consumed Elijah’s sacrifice proving that He is real and the one true God. God’s people worshipped Him again, and God ended the drought.

STEP 2: Choose a worship video to sing with your kids

STEP 3: Watch the Video with your Kids

STEP 4: Practice this month’s Bible Verse with your kids.

Memory Verse: “No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.” Jeremiah 10:6 NIV

STEP 5: Review with your kids.

Big Idea: God is really real.

This story helps us address three kinds of questions that kids may have. They are our He (God question), our We (people question), and our Me (purpose question) for this week.

Ask Your Kids:

  • Our He Question about God: Is God real?

  • Our We Question about people: Why should we believe that God is real?

  • Our Me Question about our purpose: How should I live knowing that God is really real?
