KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of December 19th

It’s such a privilege to watch kids care for other kids. This month, we’ve seen Northridge Kids commit to doing something for someone in their home or community. We’ve also seen kids use their creativity to color bookmarks that will bless the students at Rise Community School. (Rochester Kids will have an opportunity to color bookmarks this Sunday). Finally, we are looking forward to having our kids financially bless the kids living in the country of Malawi. All the money we collect THIS Sunday, December 19th will go towards this unique initiative that partners three non profit organizations with local churches in Malawi. In Malawi, not everyone has enough food, clean water, or a chance to go to school. But the local churches in Malawi can help! We want to help them to step in and help people have clean water, food, and help ALL kids to go to school. You can learn more about this project and Beyond HERE or watch the video below.

Christmas Eve Services: We hope that you and your families will join us this Friday, December 24th for our Christmas Eve services. Childcare is available for Nursery and Preschool children at every service. Service times are as follows:

This week’s resources are listed below. Have a great week and a wonderful Christmas!

Preschool Resources

Bible Story: THE FIRST CHRISTMAS GIFT — Always with us

Big Idea: God gave us His Son, Jesus, as the very first Christmas present. Jesus is Immanuel, God with us. He shines a light so we can see what God is like!

Step 1: Watch the video with your preschoolers.

Step 2: Review with your kids.

Ask your kids: How do you know what God is like? (I look at Jesus!)

Step 3: Practice the Memory Verse with your preschoolers.

“... they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” Matthew 1:23 NLT

Step 4: Print the Adventure Guide to use with your preschooler throughout the week.

Elementary Resources

STEP 1: Read the Bible Passage with your kids

Bible Story: Jesus is Born • Luke 2:1-21

At the time of Jesus’ birth, there was a census called. Mary and Joseph were from the house of David, so they had to travel to Bethlehem to be counted. Bethlehem was crowded for the census, so the only place Mary and Joseph were able to stay was a place where animals were kept. Jesus was born there, and Mary wrapped Jesus in cloths and laid Him in a manager. That same night, shepherds were out in the fields watching their flocks. A multitude of angels appeared and announced the birth of Jesus and told the shepherds to go and see the baby in Bethlehem. The shepherds found Jesus and praised God; then they told others what they had seen and heard.

STEP 2: Choose a worship video to sing with your kids

STEP 3: Watch the Video with your Kids

STEP 4: Practice this month’s Bible Verse with your kids.

Memory Verse: “But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11 NIV

STEP 5: Review with your kids.

Big Idea: God’s Son, Jesus, is born.

This story helps us address three kinds of questions that kids may have. They are our He (God question), our We (people question), and our Me (purpose question) for this week.

Ask Your Kids:

  • Our He Question about God: Why does God care how His people live?

  • Our We Question about people: What does God want us to do when we mess up?

  • Our Me Question about our purpose: How do I know how God wants me to live?
