KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of December 12th

How is your family doing at “branching out”? Last week our entire church was given the opportunity to “branch out” and show kindness to those around us. Adults and kids had a chance to write down on an ornament something they could do for someone else. Kids took theirs home with them and if you’re joining us in person, make sure to check out the tress in our lobby full of ways our church is helping those in our community.

This week, kids will be coloring bookmarks to bless the kids at Rise Community School 106. They will also be going home with a brown envelope to bring back next Sunday, December 18th. Next week, we will be collecting an offering in all of our kids environments that will go to benefit our Malawi Project. You can learn more about this project and Beyond HERE.

This week’s resources are listed below. Have a great week!

Preschool Resources

Bible Story: THE FIRST CHRISTMAS GIFT — Always with us

Big Idea: God gave us His Son, Jesus, as the very first Christmas present. Jesus is Immanuel, God with us. He shines a light so we can see what God is like!

Step 1: Watch the video with your preschoolers.

Step 2: Review with your kids.

Ask your kids: How do you know what God is like? (I look at Jesus!)

Step 3: Practice the Memory Verse with your preschoolers.

“... they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” Matthew 1:23 NLT

Step 4: Print the Adventure Guide to use with your preschooler throughout the week.

Elementary Resources

STEP 1: Read the Bible Passage with your kids

Bible Story: An Angel Visits Joseph • Matthew 1:18-24

Mary and Joseph were engaged to be married, when Mary became pregnant from the Holy Spirit. Joseph planned to leave her quietly, but an angel from the Lord came to him in a dream and told him it was okay to marry her, because Mary was pregnant with the Savior of the world, Jesus. They were to name Him Immanuel, which means God with us.

STEP 2: Choose a worship video to sing with your kids

STEP 3: Watch the Video with your Kids

STEP 4: Practice this month’s Bible Verse with your kids.

Memory Verse: “But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11 NIV

STEP 5: Review with your kids.

Big Idea: Jesus is Immanuel.

This story helps us address three kinds of questions that kids may have. They are our He (God question), our We (people question), and our Me (purpose question) for this week.

Ask Your Kids:

  • Our He Question about God: Why did God send Jesus to earth?

  • Our We Question about people: Why did God choose to be with us?

  • Our Me Question about our purpose: If Jesus is God with us, what does that mean for me?
