KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of January 9th

Do you love new beginnings? For many of us, the beginning of a new year brings on the promise of a fresh start and new hopes for what lies ahead these next 12 months. This Sunday, our church will begin a new series where we look at the topic of habits. What habits does your family prioritize? Do you have any new habits you plan to implement this year? If Scripture memorization isn’t one of them, you may want to consider adding a new habit to your routine. We believe in the importance of committing God’s Word to heart which is why each month in our kids environments, kids ages 2 through 5th grade learn a new Bible verse. You can find the monthly verses for January listed below. Kids in our Elementary environments even have the opportunity to earn a Swag Tag each month for memorizing the verse. If you would like to read more about why memorizing Scripture is valuable for your family or for ideas of how and what to memorize, check out this article from Intentional Parents.

Check out our weekly experience guide below. Have a great week!

Preschool Resources

Bible Story: FIRST SIN — The Fall

Big Idea: Wisdom is knowing what’s right and choosing to do it. Ask God for wisdom. Listen to what He says. Stay on God’s path, and live like Jesus. Don’t make the wrong choice like Adam and Eve did when they disobeyed God.

Step 1: Watch the video with your preschoolers.

Step 2: Review with your kids.

Ask your kids: How do you make the right choice? (I ask God! God helps me make the right choice.)

Step 3: Practice the Memory Verse with your preschoolers.

“If any of you need wisdom, ask God for it.’” James 1:5 NIRV

Step 4: Print the Adventure Guide to use with your preschooler throughout the week.

Elementary Resources

STEP 1: Read the Bible Passage with your kids

Bible Story: Salt and Light • Matthew 5:1-2, 13-16

A large crowd came to a hillside to hear Jesus teach. This would be known as the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus started His teaching by explaining who would get blessings, or favor from God. Then Jesus used the words “Salt” and “Light” to describe how He wants us to show God’s love to others.

STEP 2: Choose a worship video to sing with your kids

STEP 3: Watch the Video with your Kids

STEP 4: Practice this month’s Bible Verse with your kids.

Memory Verse: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24 NIV

STEP 5: Review with your kids.

Big Idea: Jesus teaches us how to show God’s love to others.

This story helps us address three kinds of questions that kids may have. They are our He (God question), our We (people question), and our Me (purpose question) for this week.

Ask Your Kids:

  • Our He Question about God: How does it change our lives to love God?

  • Our We Question about people: What does it mean for us to be lights to the world?

  • Our MeQuestion about our purpose: How can I be a light in the world?
