Baptism: Steve Gillette
Having grown up in the church and been baptized as a baby, Steve thought he had it all figured out. But for him, God was always off to the side, and he never gave Him control or trust. He thought that doing good was what would get him by.
Four years ago, Steve’s girlfriend Heather brought him to Northridge, and although he heard messages and felt convictions about getting baptized, he fought it. He married Heather under the pretense that believing in God and putting Him first were one in the same, but they had problems because he had an internal struggle with God. This eventually led to the couple being divorced, which left Steve feeling lonely. Still, Heather never stopped praying for his salvation.
In December 2020, Steve was diagnosed with COVID, and God spoke to him during that isolation, telling him to allow Him to lead and to give up control. He always thought coming to Jesus was a gradual process, but he knew he had to give up control. About six days in, he gave up control, asking for forgiveness of his sins and welcoming him in. He now wakes up with a feeling of hope and a purpose, and his perspective now aligns with God’s word and plan for his life.
Today, Steve is getting baptized to tell the world he is following Jesus.
