Beyond Stories: $5000 Malawi Relief Gift
This year, Northridge will be giving $5000 to Malawi through World Relief for disaster restoration after drought and flooding from El Niño. Malawi has struggled with food shortages due to crop loss from the drought, and to add onto that, the region experienced flooding in March 2024 that led to loss of homes, infrastructure, livestock and crops among other things. There are nearly 11,000 who are homeless seeking refuge in temporary shelter camps, and 2 million people have been impacted across the country overall.
Immediate life saving relief, risk reduction, and resilience from future disasters will be the focus of this relief project. Food, cash and other related items will be distributed to help with food security. Utensils and water treatment supplies will be given out as well to prevent cholera outbreaks.
Last year, cyclones in Malawi resulted in a cholera outbreak across much of the country. A gift of $5000 from our church helped build a well for a small community near Lake Malawi. We're proud to be contributing to relief in Malawi once again to move them out of this crisis. Check out the before and after photos of this communities’ water source.
