KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of July 18th
This week all of our kids environments are learning that joy is choosing to worship God even when we are not happy. If you or your kids are looking for resources to learn more about joy, you can check out this video series from Phil Vischer, the creator of Veggie Tales and the “What’s in the Bible?” series. These short videos will dive into the book of Philippians to answer the question, "Where does joy come from?" With the help of some animated friends, Phil unpacks what it means to live with joy both in times of happiness and in times of sadness. You can find this set of videos on RightNow Media. This summer we are excited to offer an opportunity for families to further study God’s Word together. Each week, we will provide a devotional that adults can use to dig deeper into our study from Sunday. In addition, there are questions to discuss as a family as well as a fun sheet that kids an use to study the passage themselves. The sheet walks kids through the S.O.A.P. method. Simply follow these steps…
SCRIPTURE—Choose a verse or a passage to read. A good place to start is to use the passage listed on the back of the devotional page (see above) that applies to this week’s lesson.
OBSERVATION—Write down interesting facts or points you see in this Scripture. This is a great place to ask some who, what, when, where, why questions.
APPLICATION—Ask yourself, “How does this apply to my life?” For younger kids ask, “What will you do today because of what you read?” Let them fill in the blank, “I Will __________ today.”
PRAYER—Ask God to help you. Kids can write out a simple prayer to God or use that spot to list out the things they are praying for. You can find the sheet here:
