KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of September 19th

Last week, after finishing our ten week study of the Fruit of the Spirit, all of our kids environments started a new unit. Our Preschoolers are studying the Creation Story from the book of Genesis and our Elementary kids are looking at some stories from Exodus, Joshua and Judges. We had taken a break from our weekly text blasts in order to focus on our family devotionals but with these new series, we are resuming our weekly text blasts. If you are unfamiliar with our text blasts, you can sign up to receive one text a week with questions relating to what your kids learned on Sunday. This is an easy way for you to keep your kids engaged with the Bible Story. You will receive the question around dinner time so that you can discuss the answers as a family while you eat dinner, drive around in your car or at bedtime. If you haven’t signed up, click here to get started!

ELEMENTARY: This week, as we dive into the story of Joshua and Jericho, kids will learn that God is the leader of His people. He is the faithful companion, no matter what is happening and that God leads us through His Word and the promises He has given us. We can trust what He says. Finally, Kids will learn they can remember that God keeps His promises and has a plan to bring them closer to Him. They can trust through His Word that, no matter what is happening, He is leading them.

This week’s resources are listed below. Have a great week!

Preschool Resources

Bible Story: In the Beginning—Creation of the World

Big Idea: God is AMAZING! He made the sun in the sky, the animals, the whole world—they’re all His creations. But do you know what God’s most AMAZING creation is? It’s you and me! God made people to be like Him so we can trust and follow Jesus, and be His special friends!

Step 1: Watch the video with your preschoolers.

Step 2: Review with your kids.

Ask your kids: Who made you? (God made me amazing!)

Elementary Resources

STEP 1: Read the Bible Passage with your kids

Bible Story: Joshua and Jericho Joshua 5:13-6:27

Joshua was the leader of God’s people. One day, the Commander of the Lord’s Army came to Joshua and told him to take off his shoes because the place where he was standing was holy. God gave Joshua instructions to defeat Jericho. The soldiers and priests were to march around the city once a day for six days. On the seventh day, seven priests blew rams’ horns while the other soldiers and priests marched around the city seven times. On the seventh time, the people shouted, blew trumpets, and watched the walls of Jericho tumble. The people defeated the city through God who led them to victory. God kept His promise, and other nations knew that God was with them.

STEP 2: Choose a worship video to sing with your kids

STEP 3: Watch the Video with your Kids

STEP 4: Practice this month’s Bible Verse with your kids.

Memory Verse: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”” Psalm 119:105 NIV

STEP 5: Review with your kids.

Big Idea: God leads His people.

This story helps us address three kinds of questions that kids may have. They are our He (God question), our We (people question), and our Me (purpose question) for this week.

Ask Your Kids:

  • Our He Question about God: Who is God to us?

  • Our We Question about people: How does God lead us?

  • Our Me Question about our purpose: Why should I trust God to lead me?
