KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of November 7th

Happy November! We are excited to start a new month of curriculum in all of our kids environments. Our preschoolers (ages 2-5) will be looking at the story of Samuel’s calling by God all month long. Elementary kids (Kindergarten-5th grade) will be diving into a series called “Times of Trouble” which take a closer look at stories from the lives of Ezra, Esther, Jeremiah and Daniel.

If you have kids in elementary school, a great resource to help them grow in their understanding of what God is teaching us through the books of Ezra and Nehemiah (today’s lesson) can be found for free on RightNow Media.

“The What’s in the Bible?” videos are a fun way to learn more about how these stories fit into the context of the whole Bible and within history. These videos engage kids and adults of all ages! Volume 7 of this series deals with the stories that our elementary kids still be studying these first two weeks of November. The first video covers Ezra and Nehemiah. The exile is over, but the Israelites face BIG challenges back home in Judah! The Israelites return home to Judah to rebuild God's temple- a task full of unexpected challenges. The next video covers the book of Esther, a brave young Jewish girls risks everything to save her people from doom at the hands of the evil Haman.

You can sign up for a free RightNow Media account by clicking HERE. If you already have an account, just click here or search for “What’s in the Bible?” Volume 7 to watch these awesome videos with your kids.

This week’s resources are listed below. Have a great week!

Preschool Resources

Bible Story: A VOICE IN THE NIGHT — Samuel is called by God

Big Idea: Start your day by praying to God, and talk and listen to Him ALL DAY LONG! Even if you go really far away or visit other places, He’s always listening. This message about Samuel will teach kids that God is always ready to talk with us.

Step 1: Watch the video with your preschoolers.

Step 2: Review with your kids.

Ask your kids: When can you pray? (I can pray all night, all day!)

Step 3: Practice the Memory Verse with your preschoolers.

“Morning, noon, and night ... the LORD hears my voice.” Psalm 55:17 NLT

Step 4: Print the Adventure Guide to use with your preschooler throughout the week.

Elementary Resources

STEP 1: Read the Bible Passage with your kids

Bible Story: Ezra • Ezra 7:6-28; 8:31-32, Nehemiah 8-9

Ezra was a Jewish scribe who lived in Babylon. The king of Babylon asked Ezra to travel to Jerusalem and check on the people there. He sent much silver and gold with Ezra to repair God’s temple for worship. He told Ezra to teach the people living in Jerusalem God’s law. Ezra willingly obeyed. In Jerusalem, Ezra read God’s law to the people from morning till late afternoon. The people listened and responded in worship and praise. As Ezra continued to teach them about God’s faithfulness and goodness, they chose to follow and obey the good and faithful God.

STEP 2: Choose a worship video to sing with your kids

STEP 3: Watch the Video with your Kids

STEP 4: Practice this month’s Bible Verse with your kids.

Memory Verse: “No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.” Jeremiah 10:6 NIV

STEP 5: Review with your kids.

Big Idea: God is good!

This story helps us address three kinds of questions that kids may have. They are our He (God question), our We (people question), and our Me (purpose question) for this week.

Ask Your Kids:

  • Our He Question about God: Is God good?

  • Our We Question about people: How does God help us in times of trouble?

  • Our Me Question about our purpose: How can I respond to God being good?
