KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of November 21st

Most of us will be spending time this week preparing our homes and tables for Thanksgiving. You may be cleaning and cooking or you may be getting ready to take a trip to celebrate with friends or family. Whatever you are doing, spend some time preparing your heart to be grateful not just on Thanksgiving but everyday. This is an important habit to practice and to model for our kids especially in this social media influenced society that we are all living in. It’s so easy to compare our lives with others and to become discontent with what we have. Here is a brief article from the Parent Cue that helps us think through all of the blessings, both big AND small, we have to be grateful for this season. Check it out here:

We encourage you to work with your kids this week to make up your own list of things to be grateful for…don’t forget to include even the small blessings!

This week’s resources are listed below. Have a great week and a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Preschool Resources

Bible Story: A VOICE IN THE NIGHT — Samuel is called by God

Big Idea: Start your day by praying to God, and talk and listen to Him ALL DAY LONG! Even if you go really far away or visit other places, He’s always listening. This message about Samuel will teach kids that God is always ready to talk with us.

Step 1: Watch the video with your preschoolers.

Step 2: Review with your kids.

Ask your kids: When can you pray? (I can pray all night, all day!)

Step 3: Practice the Memory Verse with your preschoolers.

“Morning, noon, and night ... the LORD hears my voice.” Psalm 55:17 NLT

Step 4: Print the Adventure Guide to use with your preschooler throughout the week.

Elementary Resources

STEP 1: Read the Bible Passage with your kids

Bible Story: Jeremiah’s Scroll • Jeremiah 36

Jeremiah was a prophet, or a messenger of God, during a time when God’s people were held captive in Babylon. God gave Jeremiah a message of warning, which Jeremiah had written on a scroll and shared with the king. God wanted the people to turn away from their wrong choices, and He promised to forgive them. The king didn’t want to hear God’s message, and he burned the scroll. God took seriously the sins of the people and said they would be held responsible for the choices they had made.

STEP 2: Choose a worship video to sing with your kids

STEP 3: Watch the Video with your Kids

STEP 4: Practice this month’s Bible Verse with your kids.

Memory Verse: “No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.” Jeremiah 10:6 NIV

STEP 5: Review with your kids.

Big Idea: God shows us how to live.

This story helps us address three kinds of questions that kids may have. They are our He (God question), our We (people question), and our Me (purpose question) for this week.

Ask Your Kids:

  • Our He Question about God: Why does God care how His people live?

  • Our We Question about people: What does God want us to do when we mess up?

  • Our Me Question about our purpose: How do I know how God wants me to live?
