KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of November 28th

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving this past week! As we wrap up our Thanksgiving dinners and begin to pull out our Christmas decorations, our minds and hearts begin to anticipate a new celebration. Sunday is the beginning of Advent, a season where we prepare our hearts for the celebration of Christ’s birth. This year, Northridge Kids has a present for every family. On Sunday we will be handing out copies of John Piper’s Joy to the World, Daily Readings for Advent to every family. Each kid will be receiving their own version of the guide. The book and the guide begin on Wednesday, December 1st. Every day leading up to Christmas you can read a verse or two together and read the devotional. There are discussion questions and a coloring page to help make this time together meaningful for every age. If you have young kids, they may simply listen to the daily verses and color as you read the devotional. Older kids may be able to read the adult book and discuss the questions with you. We hope that no matter what age your kids are, this can be a special time for all of you. If you will not be at church this week, you can also access the content of the book through THIS plan on the YouVersion app. Click below for the pdf version of the kids booklet.

This week’s resources are listed below. Have a great week!

Preschool Resources

Bible Story: A VOICE IN THE NIGHT — Samuel is called by God

Big Idea: Start your day by praying to God, and talk and listen to Him ALL DAY LONG! Even if you go really far away or visit other places, He’s always listening. This message about Samuel will teach kids that God is always ready to talk with us.

Step 1: Watch the video with your preschoolers.

Step 2: Review with your kids.

Ask your kids: When can you pray? (I can pray all night, all day!)

Step 3: Practice the Memory Verse with your preschoolers.

“Morning, noon, and night ... the LORD hears my voice.” Psalm 55:17 NLT

Step 4: Print the Adventure Guide to use with your preschooler throughout the week.

Elementary Resources

STEP 1: Read the Bible Passage with your kids

Bible Story: Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream • Daniel 2

King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that he didn’t understand. It caused him great anxiety, so he commanded his advisors, or “wise men,” to tell him what it meant. They asked the king what the dream was, but he wouldn’t tell them. Shocked, they told the king that no one could know the meaning of his dream without knowing what it was. This made the king furious, and he ordered all of his advisors to be killed. God revealed to Daniel, one of His people and one of the advisors, what the king’s dream was and what it meant—it was about God’s plan for kings and empires. Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar, and the advisors were spared. God is sovereign over all!

STEP 2: Choose a worship video to sing with your kids

STEP 3: Watch the Video with your Kids

STEP 4: Practice this month’s Bible Verse with your kids.

Memory Verse: “No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.” Jeremiah 10:6 NIV

STEP 5: Review with your kids.

Big Idea: God is sovereign.

This story helps us address three kinds of questions that kids may have. They are our He (God question), our We (people question), and our Me (purpose question) for this week.

Ask Your Kids:

  • Our He Question about God: Is God really in control, even when bad things happen?

  • Our We Question about people: If God is sovereign and in control, why do bad things happen to His people?

  • Our Me Question about our purpose: How does it change me to know that God is sovereign?
