KiDS Weekly Experience Guide & Parent Cue: week of December 5th

We love opportunities to partner with our entire church! This month kids will have the opportunity to join the rest of the Northridge family as we reach beyond the walls of our church by caring for the needs of our community and the world. Today, we will “Branch Out” as we all think through ways to show love to those around us. Kids will go home today with an ornament that details something they plan to do for someone else this week. Make sure to ask them about their plan to bless others!

This past Sunday we handed out copies of John Piper’s Joy to the World, Daily Readings for Advent to every family. Each kid also received their own version of the guide. We will have extra copies available this Sunday if you didn’t get one last week or you can also access the content of the book through THIS plan on the YouVersion app. Click below for the pdf version of the kids booklet.

This week’s resources are listed below. Have a great week!

Step 2: Review with your kids.

Ask your kids: How do you know what God is like? (I look at Jesus!)

Step 3: Practice the Memory Verse with your preschoolers.

“... they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” Matthew 1:23 NLT

Step 4: Print the Adventure Guide to use with your preschooler throughout the week.

Elementary Resources

STEP 1: Read the Bible Passage with your kids

Bible Story: The King is Coming • Isaiah 9:1-7

Isaiah was a prophet of God who spoke to the leaders of Israel and Judah. In this story, Isaiah brought a message of hope to the people of Israel about the coming King, Jesus. Isaiah shared that they would not experience the pain of defeat and darkness forever as God had a plan to bring victory. God was going to send a man, His very own Son, to save them by establishing a new kingdom and setting them free from their suffering. Jesus would rule over the earth with justice and righteousness forever and His kingdom would be marked by peace.

STEP 2: Choose a worship video to sing with your kids

STEP 3: Watch the Video with your Kids

STEP 4: Practice this month’s Bible Verse with your kids.

Memory Verse: “But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11 NIV

STEP 5: Review with your kids.

Big Idea: God promised to send a Savior.

This story helps us address three kinds of questions that kids may have. They are our He (God question), our We (people question), and our Me (purpose question) for this week.

Ask Your Kids:

  • Our He Question about God: What was God’s plan for His people?

  • Our We Question about people: Why do we need a Savior?

  • Our Me Question about our purpose: Will Jesus save me from everything bad?
