Baptism: Dan Davis

Dan’s life felt hopeless, tragic, and difficult before he came to Christ.  His first year of college was especially challenging as he moved away from family and was introduced to alcohol.  Over the next several years, he became reliant on alcohol.  This impacted his grade point average and resulted in him getting a “notice of academic dismissal.”  At this same time, he went through a relational breakup, and moved back home.   During his commute back to college one morning, he was in a car accident.  The fire chief told him later that if he had been hit one more foot to the left or right, he would have died. He felt the miracle of that accident but still didn’t put his faith in Jesus.

In March of 2024, Dan was at his lowest point as he ended a 5-yr. relationship with his girlfriend.  He had been attending Northridge for three months and shared how he had to end this relationship.  He considered suicide as he felt the sadness, anger, and frustration of his situation.  In the middle of these negative emotions, Dan felt a peace come over him.  That was when he knew that picking Christ over his girlfriend was the right call, “not just in this moment, but every moment.”  Since accepting Christ, he sees the joy and beauty in the little things and no longer feels the tug for alcohol.

Today, Dan is getting baptized because the Scripture commands it and also because he wants to be an example.  Christ has allowed him to grow as a person, to love as one should love, and to forgive.  Now, it is time for him to be that same example of Christ’s love for others and show that same compassion, grace, and mercy.  He is publicly declaring his love for Christ.
